My Tips for Kid Safety at the Pool

It’s starting to feel like summer is actually going to happen this year! (It’s about time, if you ask me. I’m so sick of winter.) So, let's talk about swimming pools. Love ‘em. I even have one. But, they’re also a huge danger zone for kids. So, I thought I’d share a few tips for ensuring you and your kiddos stay safe.

A lot of these are just common sense, but if we spread the word and even one kid is saved as a result, totally worth it. Here goes:

Poolside Supervision

This means: GET OFF YOUR DANG PHONES! 

Always keep a watchful eye on your little swimmers. I'm talking about 100% undivided attention here, folks. No distractions, no multitasking—just you, your kid, and maybe a trusty flotation device if they're still learning the ropes. (If you’re reading this article while at the pool, put your phone down and pay attention to your kids.)

In our house, no one swims without a grown-up watching. If we have a pool party, my husband or I are the designated pool watcher (not talking or socializing, not preparing food, just eyes on the water). We don’t switch or leave until the other person verbally acknowledges, “I’m on the pool.”
